You go up in the attic at midnight and cast the bones
People on the outside think there’s something magical about writing, that you go up in the attic at midnight and cast the bones and come down in the morning with a story, but it isn’t like that. You sit in back of the typewriter and you work, and that’s all there is to it.
Harlan Ellison

I saw Harlan speak in College Station, Texas back in ’67 or ’68. He was a mesmerising, engaging, and wonderfully human speaker, and I learned a lot that night…
Nice. Writing is BIC (butt in chair) work.
On the other hand, I do think there is some magic, but the magic happens inside the author – and it comes out through hard work with tips of fingers to keyboard.
