Microsoft Surface Pricing Announced
Microsoft has announced its pricing and opened pre-ordering for the Surface tablet.
Unsurprisingly, it’s $499, $599 and $699 which will remind many of prices from a certain tablet manufacturer in Cupertino.
The Surface will be available on October 26.

Plus another $100 for the keyboard?
I believe some of those models include the keyboard, but if you intend to use the keyboard enough to buy it you would probably be better off with a $200 netbook.
*brandishes her iPad and Airbook instead*
Useful to hear that some of those price-points include the keyboard, though.
The scary part – overall – is that if we want to test our ebook releases, we should have one of each possible/targeted type of reader hardware – so a Kindle or two, an iPad, Kobo, MS Surface, Nook, etc – ouch!
I have to admit I’m torn about that and tend to use the PC-based viewers to preview works, John. I understand the previewers are not perfect.
Mrs. PG sells very few books through Kobo and I can’t see buying a Kobo ereader for the sole purpose of checking them out. But then I’m not as obsessive about that as I might be.
I keep it all very simple, and don’t actually feel the need to do more than cursory checks, myself. The less I do fancy formatting, the less that can get messed up.
I am probably being over-concerned – but I work in IT, and testing is embedded in the psyche…
Not that I have acquired all of these – just a standard Kindle and a Kindle Fire – but wonder whether -if I am being serious as a publisher of my own work – I should be more thorough. A decision for 2013. Full time writing starts then.
Borrow?
So much for Microsoft doing something creative with their market positioning. Hi, we’re Microsoft, and we have a tablet too! Thanks for waiting all this time for us to get on the ball!
