It seems very likely that Rowling was intentionally tapping right into the same place Dahl went when she wrote about the Dursleys.
Delusions about their progeny’s fitness are all that keep many parents from drowning them shortly after birth.
That, or they love their kid. One of those.
I’m with Mr Cabot; the wrinkly noise-making lil poop machines would rarely survive to their cute stage if parents were emotionless vulcans. Sleep deprivation leads to awful things if not countered by hard-wired emotion. 😉
I would ay your response aligns more with Mr.DeWitt than Mr. Cabot (hard wired emotion).
