If I had to give young writers advice, I would say don’t listen to writers talking about writing or themselves.
Good advise more often than not … 😉
My only advice I ever give is simple: “Read, write, seek out new experiences, and learn the difference between critique and criticism.”
Those are the only pieces of advice I’ve ever found to be useful.
Somerset Maugham said: “There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately no one knows what they are.”
Just get on with the writing because you’ll have to experience personally much of the very same thing they tell you about. You may not think of yourself as hopeless at difficult stages if you have some foreknowledge of what to expect at least from their experience. To that extent they make good company.
