I wrote my first novel because I wanted to read it.
Toni Morrison and thanks to Suzan for the tip.
‘And the second because I wanted others to want to read it?
I see the email choices changed since the last post, now to see if they work. 😉
That’s exactly why I wrote my first novel. And why I continue to write – I write the kinds of books I want to read but have trouble finding, and hopefully I’m not the only one in the world who wants to read those kinds of books.
Me, too, Kyra! It’s why I have Ms. Morrison’s quote on the bulletin board over my desk. 🙂
Me, too, except I have to finish the whole story – two more books – of something I wanted to read in 2000!
Once all three volumes are sitting where I can put my hand on them (and probably also in audiobook), which will take at least a few more years, then I will be happy. Because I’ve come across nothing like it, and at least a few people have taken the journey so far with me.
Each book is unique to an author who put time into it (yeah, I know Lawrence Block’s story of putting out a book in three days because he needed the money) – and without that time would not exist.
I like the current digital publishing capabilities. In the days of the hegemony of the traditional publishers, most of the books of the heart turned to dust in drawers and and trunks. Now there’s at least a possibility someone else might read it and like it, whatever its flaws.
And for a tiny bit more effort, you can get the proof version from Createspace, and have a paper copy as well.
Except for audio – and I’m not sure I’ll be alive when a robot comes along which can read Pride’s Children as intended – I can have my story, in electrons and tangible form, almost forever. Probably until I don’t care any more.
