Agatha Christie is a great romance author.
If she chooses to believe that, OK.
In my life, the second (may have been the third) science fiction book I bought was by Andre Norton. I knew the writer was a woman when I bought it. Did not matter to me then. Does not matter to me now. What does matter is the writing.
Granted, I didn’t start buying my own books regularly until 1990, but I’ve never had any problems finding books written by women authors in whatever genre’s shelves I happened to look at. This goes for local new-book shops, local used bookstores, and stores like Waldenbooks, etc. And I wouldn’t call the cities where I lived first-rate cities like New York, NY.
