And here I say to parents, especially to wealthy parents, ‘Don’t give your son money. As far as you can afford it, give him horses.’ No one ever came to grief except honourable grief through riding horses. No hour of life is lost that is spent in the saddle. Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing horses, but never through riding them unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die.

Good one, Winnie. 😀
And men who know how to ride look good on horseback. ; and it helps them exercise their core muscles too, which helps tehme look good off horses. 🙂
And nowadays, with horse sports so taken over by women, the odds for men finding a nice girl are very, very good. 😉
Probably the main thing is that a horse has its own mind, so a good rider has to understand his horse and be able to tell the horse what he wants, also. Communication and observation are good skills. Watching other people work with their horses is good for learning about their characters, too; and maybe that can teach you something about people in general.
But mostly, horses make people happy.
🙂 Well said
I’ve been injured on horses, and by horses, but I still love riding and enjoy the memories of some of the horses I was around. Except that one mare.
And what Banshee said about having to learn to work with the horse instead of against it.
I just came in from the barn. I released the two fat mares and fed my 30 year old black gelding.
Yeah, the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a human.
TXRed – Yeah, there’s always that one mare…LOL
