From The Know:

Certified Tattoo Studios partnered with the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation to offer library- and literary-themed tattoos at the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library on Sunday to raise money for the non-profit.

Tattoos were $50 to $200 and ranged from Dr. Seuss and Harry Potter to the library logo and a worm reading a book.

Nando Mondragon, owner of Certified, said he grew up loving books. He was incarcerated at 18 and, after his release, made it a goal to give back to his community.

    • I have been told by a tattoo artist that tattoos have a general exemption from copyright and trademark laws. I have no idea whether that’s true or not, but I can see why IP owners don’t go after tattoos. How are you going to make the infringer cease and desist? Flay him alive? Or just make him pay a skin tax for the rest of his life? Either way would be a PR nightmare.

      • The guy with the tattoo is not the infringer. He is the evidence of infringement.

The infringer is the tattoo artist. He reproduced the image without license and, if he got paid, for commercial gain.

        You were lied to.

        • You were lied to.

As I very strongly suspected at the time. But the tattoo artist clearly believed it, so I imagine he had been lied to as well.

For the avoidance of doubt, I have no tattoos and no intention of ever getting any. If I want pictures, I will hang them on the wall, and then if I change my mind I can take them down again.
