As some visitors to TPV will know, today is the anniversary of the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the event which brought the United States fully into World War II.
George S. Patton was an American general who was extraordinarily successful on the battlefield, but less richly endowed with an aptitude for diplomatic restraint while expressing his opinions.

That is an appropriate level of diplomatic restraint.
Then on the other end of the spectrum, though with the same message, comes good old General James “Mad Dog” Mattis, our current Secretary of Defense: “I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you **** with me, I’ll kill you all.”
