Real cities have something else, some individual bony structure under the muck. Los Angeles has Hollywood—and hates it. It ought to consider itself damn lucky. Without Hollywood it would be a mail order city. Everything in the catalogue you could get better somewhere else.

  1. I went to see a comic in SF one time and he was doing some jokes about the topic of moving from SF to LA (which he had just done because show-biz.)

    “San Francisco and Los Angeles sort of have this rivalry, you know? Except Los Angeles doesn’t know it.”

    You could pretty much say that about anyplace and LA.

    • “Sears Roebuck used to sell complete home kits back then.”

      My dad help put up the one his mother-in-law lived in! 😉
