  1. And people wonder why guys don’t hold doors or otherwise be kind to the so called fairer sex.

Years ago I’d stop to offer help if it looked like someone needed it – but these days a guy’s liable to get yelled at and called a sexist for his troubles.

And they wonder why they can’t find a good man – no good man would put up with what they’re dishing out! 😉

    • I hold doors and perform suchlike courtesies for anyone who needs it, regardless of sex. And if a woman objects to it because she wants to take her mouldy feminism out for an airing, I tell her she’s being sexist.

      • Ditto.
        It’s called “common courtesy”.
Slamming a door in someone’s face is just rude.

        • One of the few advantages to getting old is the pleasure I get from opening doors, saying hello, smiling, and waving to perfect strangers. I can’t think of the last time I got a scowl or an acid remark in reply. Male or female.

  2. Kate Carlisle is pathetic to be afraid of spiders, and just plain nasty to get someone else to kill them. What harm do spiders do? She’s also rude about 50% of the people on this planet.
Who does she think she is? Horrible woman.

    • Lexi, in fairness to Ms Carlisle, I believe that this is taken from a novel, “Homicide in Hardcover”, so it is most likely that this represents the view of a character rather than the author.

In fact the continuation of the quotation “Other than that, I was on my own. It was sad though. Where was the chivalry of yesteryear?” suggests that the character regrets, though does not reject, the uselessness of men.

      • Thanks for telling me that, Mike. Then my comments apply to the character in the novel. (You do seem oddly sympathetic to her ludicrous assumption that men are useless.)

  3. So basically I’m good for nothing?

(not being in Australia I see no need to kill spiders and, by and large, prefer that my wife captures them.)
