Martin Luther King Day

Today is celebrated as Martin Luther King, Jr., Day in the United States and is a national holiday.

Non-government businesses don’t always observe this (and other) national holidays. However, in PG’s experience, the publishing business does. Thus, there’s a bit less grist for the TPV mill than usual today.

However, Dr. King was a marvelously fluent speaker, so reading a quote from him is almost always (for PG), an edifying experience.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

At dawn

At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: “I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?

Marcus Aurelius

Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.

Denis Waitley

We all know that books burn

We all know that books burn, yet we have the greater knowledge that books cannot be killed by fire. People die, but books never die. No man and no force can put thought in a concentration camp forever. No man and no force can take from the world the books that embody man’s eternal fight against tyranny of every kind.

Franklin D. Roosevelt
