Comment Settings Changed

This content has been archived. It may no longer be accurate or relevant.

PG has received several messages that indicate that visitors who wish to make comments have not been able to do so.

To help avoid spam comments, he’s had settings that require that a visitor have one comment approved before any other comments appear automatically.

He’s turned off that setting to see if that doesn’t help with this type of problem.

  1. Okay, I’m logged in now. I think I preferred it when I didn’t have to “log in”, but whatever works. 🙂 I’d also be fine logging in with Google or FB though.

  2. H and A – Thanks for your comments.

I’m definitely going to tighten up comment moderation to avoid spam, but I’ve removed the safeguards to see if that lets everyone comment or if the commenting problems originate somewhere other than comment settings.

If comments seem to work well wide-open, I’ll start putting back content moderation,, safeguards, etc., back into place.

In the meantime, I’ll pay more attention to any comment spam that appears and cut it off.

  3. I miss the extended commenting, especially since I have had no trouble creating an account and logging in.

But any UNmoderated site descends to yucky chaos within days. No thanks. I agree with Harald.

It doesn’t seem onerous to require a moderated comment or two – after that you are free to comment on anything, as before.

Maybe I shouldn’t complain – and just comment to my heart’s desire.

  4. I just commented (couple of posts back), no problem (Mac, Chrome). As you well know, PG, moderating 1-2 initial comments cuts down on spam. But give it a try without moderation and see what happens. As soon as you get hit, slap that moderation back on. My opinion.
