I don’t want to really scare you, but it was alarming how many people I talked to who are highly placed people in AI who have retreats that are sort of ‘bug out’ houses, to which they could flee if it all hits the fan.

James Barrat, author of Our Final Invention: Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era, told the Washington Post

  1. Apparently, not enough AI people have seen Ex Machina… or pondered the fate of the tech gurus (all of them) without regard to the foolish H’wood-marketing memes associated with the film.

  2. When my uncle built a new house back in the 60s he had the basement tricked out as a bomb shelter. Deeper, extra thick walls, bunks, all that sort of thing. It was a nice place for the kids to hang out, probably still is.
