I don’t want to really scare you, but it was alarming how many people I talked to who are highly placed people in AI who have retreats that are sort of ‘bug out’ houses, to which they could flee if it all hits the fan.

Yeah, when computer programming becomes 100% bug-free I’ll worry.
Actually, mathematicians (and Microsoft) are giving it a good try.

They’re taking the methodology of mathematical proofs and applying it to coding. They may not get to 100% but they may well crowd it. Rather like the speed of light.
Well, that was not very helpful. I would like details on how AI-industry insiders would set up these “bug out” hideaways. This Barrat guy needs to go Robin Leach and show us how a non-evil neo-Unabomber could live off the grid.
Although, it occurs to me, why worry? I gather our electrical grid is not currently hardened against a Carrington Event, natural or otherwise. Doesn’t Skynet or HAL or the other evil robots require “the grid”? What does tech support always say? Power down and reboot …
Anyone know how to hide from SkyNet?
