I mean Facebook is no longer a company, it’s a country. 2 billion users. It can influence what we think, what we believe, how we vote, what we buy, even how we feel.

  1. Of course Facebook remains a company with the normal interests of a for profit organisation: ie. extracting as much money as it can for it’s managers and shareholders. The claim that it is a country is facile, it simply does not have the normal attributes of a country, even if it is run by dictators who extract as much money as they can from their citizens (users).

Still, as long as you don’t think about it, this is a good soundbite.

  2. It’s become like MTV that no longer shows music videos and really doesn’t have much to do with music. The same for my beloved The History Channel. Facebook has media, but there’s not much social about it. Unless you like those family gatherings arguing about politics until your uncle shows you the door.
