  1. Doesn’t quite have the same resonance coming from a slaver as it did coming from Cincinnatus. Of course, Cincinnatus himself resigned from being a dictator who was asked to lead the Roman legions to put down an uprising by the plebeians against the aristocrats, so maybe looking for heroes is a foolish quest anyway.

    • Of course, he also freed his slaves (though that part of his will only went into effect after his wife died, mostly because of some arcane legal nonsense).

      Washington was most certainly better than average for his time and place. Deal with it.
