  1. Meanwhile, other authors have achieved immortality by actually being read – and by people who aren’t even professors!

    I must admit (looking a gift horse in the mouth here) that I’d like to see a citation for this. I have a hard time believing Joyce would so openly blow his own gaff like that. Successful con men do not ordinarily admit they are con men, at least not where the marks might hear it.
