J.K. Rowling to pen three ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off movies

31 March 2014

From the Daily News:

Muggles, rejoice! More wizarding movies are on the way.

J.K. Rowling has teamed up with Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara to write three new films based on the world of Harry Potter.

. . . .

The main character of the trilogy will be Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist.” The spin-off will be set before Potter’s adventures.

  1. It’ll be interesting to see how well these do, and how long it takes for there to be novelizations (and who writes them).

  2. Old news from last year.

As of six weeks ago, Rowling had finished the first draft of the script for the first movie.

By now they’re probably laying out the sfx to estimate the cost.

    • I didn’t realize that this was old news. I knew that a spin-off was a possibility, but I didn’t know about the details.

The article you linked has an interesting tidbit. Rowling learned well how to manage her time during the period when she wrote the first three HP books. Time management, having three young children myself, has always been a challenge.
