That is the heart of many of the series that I am working on.
There is an Entity in control of the Realm that needs the children as a source for random Dreaming. There is a constant need to replace them as they are used up.

SANDMAN has a similar episode where a runawat dream creature is hiding in the dreams of a young boy.
One can assume the unformed brains and minds of children are useful for predators both fictional and real.
With the slight difference that in the case of Narnia, the children came out of the experience better for it.
