  1. Does he mean that as in she’s monogamous (a mailbox having only one address), or in that she’s promiscuous (a mailbox receiving mulitple pieces of mail over a week)?

    • As a rule, classic noir has misogynist undertones stemming from its femme fatale trope. So the odds are he meant the latter.

      Different times.
      Very different.

One of the best elements of John Birmingham’s AXIS OF TIME series (a large multinational military task force from the mid twenty-first century is timewarped to 1942 in the middle of the battle of Midway. FINAL COUNTDOWN done right.) is about the vast cultural difference between the uptime and downtime Americans.
      Big, brutal differences.

Anyway, it wouldn’t surprise me to see an anti-Chandler crusade any day now.

    • I’m quite sure “And exclusive as a mailbox,” is sarcastic.
As in it’s not exclusive at all because it’s constantly getting stuff put in and taken out.

LOL. wow, that sounds even dirtier than I would have thought.
