1. Not Writing.

. . . .

3. Not writing until they can set aside the perfect dedicated two or three hour time slot and commit to doing so every day.

. . . .

9. Not writing because they’re creating the perfect marketing plan for a book that doesn’t exist yet.

  1. I love this list. I have been guilty of pretty much each and every one, at one time or another. I’m getting better but it’s a struggle.

  2. #7 is a laugher: ‘Not writing because they think their ideas are stupid.’

If I think I have a stupid idea, I don’t use it. I try one of the other ideas floating around in my head – I generally have hundreds – or, if none of them fits, I sit down and try to think of a better one. This is part of the writing process.

I don’t know any writers, even beginners, who are not surfeited with ideas. It’s the total non-writers who have one idea and keep thinking they ought to write a book about it. Of course they never do.
