There is a saying

There is a saying that if you get something for free, you should know that you’re the product. It was never more true than in the case of Facebook and Gmail and YouTube. You get free social-media services, and you get free funny cat videos. In exchange, you give up the most valuable asset you have, which is your personal data.

  1. I think that the services I get from Google and YouTube – not Facebook – are worth what little personal data I have given up. I do not think this is my most valuable asset (that would be my house and/or my savings, or maybe the current value of my pension). Given my use of add-blockers and my general on line behaviour, I think that anyone paying for my data is getting a bad deal, and if they ever notice just how many people are like me, advertisers will stop wasting money and the internet economy will collapse.
