When I think of summertime as a kid, I think of my Grampy’s gardens full of tomatoes, buckets heaping with blackberries, and countertops lined with an assortment of Ball jars, ready to can the flavor of summer.

When I think of summertime as a kid, I think of my Papa Memo’s houses in Acapulco, of spending mornings at Caleta beach, and afternoons at Hornos or Hornitos, and evenings at Pie de la Cuesta where the long coastline to open ocean and powerful rollers were the best place to watch the sun setting into the Pacific.
