4 thoughts on “Where Amazon Reviews Really Come From”

  1. I read 3 star reviews. They are the most helpful. Few things in life are 5 stars and what bothers one person may not bother me.

  2. I used to rank 146. I did maybe 8 Amazon vine-offered product reviews. I did maybe another dozen more of stuff I was offered via email (and I used to get daily a lot of emails offering me all sorts of things, many from China) from cold solicitations by companies and authors who saw my rank.

I mostly reviewed stuff I bought for myself.

While I assume I’m still in the Vine program, I may have been removed; it’s been years since I requested and item. Generally, the good stuff was gone fast (some people must have checked ferociously). My rank is not great anymore, but when you’re ranked high, you get offered a lot of swag.

I stopped –years ago–reviewing people I knew well from hanging around writing and reading fora. I figured Amazon would have issue with such, so I just don’t. I do not want to get flagged.

  3. What they don’t talk about is how often we post reviews on our verified purchases & Amazon never posts them. Why should I bother if the monolith is going to decide that following authors on Facebook somehow makes us friends. It drove me off Goodreads & now it’s ruined Facebook. I’m putting my reviews (and purchases) on Kobo & iBooks where I can count on them showing up after I spend the time writing them.

  4. Amazon reviews don’t come from me anymore.

Ordered a pair of lined Isotoner gloves from a third-party vendor (Homegoods Shop) through Amazon. Receive unlined gloves. Tried to return them. Found there was no return address on the package nor on Amazon. Sent email through Amazon to the seller asking for their return address. Did not get one.

Wrote a 1-star review. Amazon rejected it because I slammed the company vice the product. How could I review the frelling product? I did not get it! That was the point of my review. What I got was not what I ordered and I said so in the review.

So frell Homegoods Shop and frell Amazon. I no longer post reviews on Amazon.

His divorce has seriously broken Bezons’s focus.
