Why do I write?

Why do I write? My finger, as a stylus, traces the question in the blank air. A familiar riddle posed since youth, withdrawing from play, comrades and the valley of love, girded with words, a beat outside.

Why do we write? A chorus erupts.

Because we cannot simply live.

  1. Someone once asked me why I write. I said “You may as well ask me why I breathe.”

I once had to go on meds that wound up preventing me from writing. I felt like my soul had been ripped from my body. Went off them ASAP.

  2. We write to get the stories out of our demented heads!

Those stories we think others might like we polish and publish.
(Those stories we know would get us put in those little padded rooms wearing long coats that close in the back we leave in the bottom drawer of the filing cabinet in the unused bathroom in the basement with the door warning of tigers … 😛 )
