Really? It appears that college campuses are far more antithetical to free speech than comics. Even the most protected speech — political speech.

He’s referring to comics (especially indie comics) as a target, not as a vehicle, for free speech attacks from outside the business. There have been several in recent years.
It does seem like free speech attacks are getting more frequent and vitriolic.
